There are only two weeks left of Bellaire City Library’s annual Summer Reading Program and there is still time to read! Children, teens, and adults can participate to earn prizes by logging the books you read through the Beanstack platform on the web or via the app. There are also free activities and programs designed to complement this year’s theme – All Together Now – scheduled through July.
Summer reading programs encourage even reluctant readers to read more of what interests them, and studies have shown that participation helps children and teens to develop a love of reading and retain and improve their skills over the summer. Adult participation promotes a lifelong habit of reading and learning and encourages caregivers to support their child’s literacy development by reading with them.
Participants of the summer reading program receive prizes and food coupons for each level completed. Rewards will be available to pick up through Saturday, August 5. The last day to record reading credit is July 31.
The theme of All Together Now is a fitting complement for this summer’s program, as exposure to books and working together from an early age fosters empathy, curiosity and an appreciation for the beauty and diversity around us.
Movies on Monday, crafts, gaming for teens, and even a day of LARP (Live Action Role Playing) for teens will round out July programs. Other events will focus on literacy, working together, kindness, family, and fun! An online calendar of All Together Now events can be found on the City of Bellaire’s webpage or follow us on Facebook!
