Book Art involves the creation of works that use structural and conceptual properties of books. The term also is used to describe works of art produced. These works may contain text and/or images, or may be sculptural.  You are invited to transform an old book designated for recycling into a piece of art.

Book Art Contest

The theme for this transformational literacy contest is “Bookish”.  Contest entrants should be creative and use any medium to create their entry; however, no copyrighted cartoon characters or images or three dimensions (3D) elements may be used.  For a complete list of rules and entry forms please visit www.fotbl.org

  • Contest is open to people of all ages and abilities
  • Winners will receive a ribbon and recognition in local media
  • Each participant will be given a book designated for recycling or participants can use their own book
  • More than one entry per person is allowed
  • No rules about how to alter your book – you can add to, carve, cut up, fold, paint, collage or reconfigure
  • Entries must be delivered to the Bellaire City Library by 2:00 PM on Friday, September 24
  • Judging takes place on Saturday, September 25 with the winners announced at the Used Book Sale on October 2
