Director of Human Resources, Melanie Glaze, was honored with the Texas Municipal Resources Association Human Resources Professional of the Year Award (population under 25,000), Wednesday, May 8, 2024, by her peers of the Texas Human Resources Management Association (TMHRA) at the annual conference in Denton, Texas.
The Texas Municipal Human Resources Association mission is to grow and enhance the professional development of our dedicated and compassionate members through effective knowledge sharing and relationship building. TMHRA offers its members a unique forum where the interests, concerns, and problems affecting civil service and Human Resources professionals can be shared and discussed.
Human Resources Professional of the Year recognizes the human resources professional who has made significant contributions to the field of municipal human resources management in the past 18 months.
Melanie Glaze joined the City of Bellaire as HR Director on May 22, 2023. After several years of significant change (new council, vacancy in the city manager position for two years, Covid pandemic, and two changes in the HR lead role in six months), Melanie faced a mountain of work and an unhealthy work culture. She dug right in on day one – visiting employees in their workplaces to get to know them, assessing our compliance with laws and best practices, investigating complaints, and helping her peers fill long-standing vacancies. In just ten months, and with the help of her peers, Melanie has turned this ship around. Melanie’s greatest contributions are employees’ increased confidence in human resources and improved employee morale. This is due to her consistent application of policies and procedures, her positive can-do attitude, and her willingness to tackle the hard stuff, timely, with professionalism and tact. She is smart, fun, and doesn’t give up. She’s driven culture change and advocated for employees both at the organizational level and the individual level. The City of Bellaire as an organization is in an infinitely better place now that Melanie is here. She is outstanding in her role as HR Director.
