From the West University Place Police Department:
On 10/2/23 at 10:54pm, West U Officers responded to a Virtual Gate alert, involving a stolen vehicle traveling in the 2600 block of Plumb. Upon reaching the vicinity, officers spotted the vehicle in the 2500 block of Dunstan Rd. An attempt to perform a traffic stop was made, but the driver of the stolen vehicle refused to comply. Instead, the driver engaged in evasive driving maneuvers, disregarded traffic signals, and accelerated at a high speed in an attempt to escape from the police.
A pursuit ensued, leading through various parts of Houston and briefly crossing into the jurisdiction of West U, before ultimately ending in a parking lot in the 2900 block of West Park Dr. (Houston). At this point, two male suspects exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. Officers gave chase, and during the pursuit, the suspects hopped over a fence and discharged several rounds from a firearm.
Law enforcement agencies, including West U, Bellaire, Southside, and the Houston Police Department, converged on the scene to establish a perimeter. Additionally, an HPD K-9 unit, along with DPS and HPD helicopters, were deployed to assist in locating the fleeing suspects. Despite their efforts, officers were unable to apprehend the suspects. However, they did recover the stolen vehicle, a handgun, and spent ammunition casings.
West U detectives are actively investigating this incident and are currently following leads to identify the individuals involved in this case.
