On 07/24/2018 at around 1005 hours, a suspect attempted to commit a burglary of a motor vehicle (BMV) at a Bellaire gas station. The suspect attempted a “slider” burglary where he opens a car door while the victim is getting gas or inside the store, and steals items from the car. In this case, an observant citizen saw the suspect exit his vehicle, crawl/ crouch toward another vehicle, and attempt to open the door. The suspect put on a pair of gloves as he approached the victim vehicle. The vehicle was locked on the passenger side and the suspect left the area.
The citizen immediately called BPD with a good vehicle description, and officers were able locate the suspect vehicle. Inside the suspect vehicle, officers located stolen cell phones that had been taken minutes before in two BMVs a few blocks away. The suspect was arrested and charged with BMV.
This is being sent out as a reminder that “Reporting Suspicious Activity” works! The citizen observed a crime occurring and called to report it. Great job to the citizen for calling and the officers who tracked down the two separate victims.
Great job BPD! Can you tell us which gas station?

Thank you!
Way to go BPD! So glad you caught one of these guys!
It’s crazy how they do this kind of thing in the daytime right down the street from the police station. They have no fear. So glad someone saw it and reported it.
Thanks Bellaire Police, y’all are awesome!
What a great job! Thank you, BPD.
