I'm glad Bellaire has a plan of adding sidewalks to various streets (and replacing old ones). I saw a story on the news the other night and it made me think of things I've read where people complained about sidewalks and that nobody wanted them.
This story was from Meyerland and the people were wanting sidewalks in their neighborhood and some also needed repairs. The City of Houston employee they interviewed said they have 82.6 million dollars in requests for sidewalks and repairs and only a 2.6 million dollar annual budget for them.
We should have a system of nice sidewalks in Bellaire and I'm glad the city is finally making it happen!
Here's the story from channel 2. https://www.click2houston.com/news/how-easy-is-it-to-get-your-sidewalk-repaired-for-free
Hopefully they won't do away with the sidewalk plan since so many people were upset about the pathways plan. I don't know why anyone would object to adding a regular sidewalk unless it disrupted a tree.
I would love to have more sidewalks in our area. We were lucky enough to be on the replacement plan and I wish they would continue into the next block!
I think sidewalk improvement is a great thing too! I just don't understand why some people are so adamant against them. Seems like it's a pretty normal thing for cities to have sidewalks.
