For the City of West University: As of today, September 5, 2017, the City of West U has lifted the mandatory curfew order that was issued on August 29, 2017. 

FEMA staff (Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams) are on Bellaire streets today. They will be wearing blue or red shirts with the FEMA logo, and they will have badges.

Beginning Monday 09/04/2017, FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance(DSA) teams will be canvasing certain portions of West Universit Place to assist residents affected by Hurricane Harvey.

As if our messy situation weren’t bad enough, it’s now becoming even worse with a steady influx of scavengers and onlookers, and the additional traffic they create, particularly in hardest-hit Southdale.

Bellaire Police Chief Byron Holloway acknowledges that the scavengers seen on our streets are frustrating for some homeowners.

Effective immediately, Tuesday, August 29, the cities have issued mandatory curfews until further notice.

Due to recent reports of suspicious activity in surrounding cities, reported by local news agencies, the City of West University Place is issuing a Mandatory Curfew starting at 12:00 Midnight to 5:00 AM for tonight Tuesday August 29, 2017.

Tropical Storm Harvey is a stubborn storm and continues to hamper efforts to begin recovery operations.  Please conclude all efforts to visit damaged homes prior to dark as water levels are beginning to rise again. 

Neighbors, Families all over Bellaire have been stranded in their homes, with the highest number reported in Southdale, which has experienced the most severe flooding.

Overnight, the lack of rain and storm water drainage will allow people to begin accessing damage to their homes. 

Dangerous flooding event continues for the entire county. Multiple Watches and Warnings will likely continue to be issued overnight.

Unfortunately the situation has only gotten worse today, and it’ll be a while before it improves.

At this time the City’s sewer treatment plant is operating beyond capacity. Please limit your sewer discharge including toilets, washing  machines, showers, dishwashers, etc.
