FEMA staff (Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams) are on Bellaire streets today. They will be wearing blue or red shirts with the FEMA logo, and they will have badges.

Beginning Monday 09/04/2017, FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance(DSA) teams will be canvasing certain portions of West Universit Place to assist residents affected by Hurricane Harvey.

As if our messy situation weren’t bad enough, it’s now becoming even worse with a steady influx of scavengers and onlookers, and the additional traffic they create, particularly in hardest-hit Southdale.

Bellaire Police Chief Byron Holloway acknowledges that the scavengers seen on our streets are frustrating for some homeowners.

Through all our community has endured this week, I remain so encouraged by the generosity of neighbors both near and far.

The Fire Chief and Building Official have prepared a short list of concerns that we feel the people should keep in mind. Please read carefully, and stay safe during your recovery efforts.

City crews will continue through the weekend to pick up regular household trash for those households east of Loop 610 (Solid Waste Areas C & D).

Greater Houston is dealing with the effects of Hurricane Harvey and the NDC wants to help. The NDC is offering free camp for kids ages 5 to 10 for families affected by the flood, including families of first responders.

The City of Bellaire will resume solid waste collection services tomorrow, August 31, 2017.

The City of Bellaire will assist you with the process of repairing your home following the recent flood damage.   There is a necessary process for issuing permits for reconstructions and repairs.

ACME Party & Tent Rental Center trucks will be at a drive-through donation site in the Newcastle parking lot at Evelyn’s Park from 6 AM – 10 PM Wednesday, to collect disaster relief items for delivery to the George R.  Brown Convention Center – Emergency Center for Hurricane Harvey shelter (GRB) and to Ben Taub Hospital.

Effective immediately, Tuesday, August 29, the cities have issued mandatory curfews until further notice.

Due to recent reports of suspicious activity in surrounding cities, reported by local news agencies, the City of West University Place is issuing a Mandatory Curfew starting at 12:00 Midnight to 5:00 AM for tonight Tuesday August 29, 2017.

Donations are being accepted at Crosspoint Church, Lakewood Church, and George R Brown. 

Tropical Storm Harvey is a stubborn storm and continues to hamper efforts to begin recovery operations.  Please conclude all efforts to visit damaged homes prior to dark as water levels are beginning to rise again. 

Neighbors, Families all over Bellaire have been stranded in their homes, with the highest number reported in Southdale, which has experienced the most severe flooding.

Overnight, the lack of rain and storm water drainage will allow people to begin accessing damage to their homes. 

Dangerous flooding event continues for the entire county. Multiple Watches and Warnings will likely continue to be issued overnight.

Unfortunately the situation has only gotten worse today, and it’ll be a while before it improves.

At this time the City’s sewer treatment plant is operating beyond capacity. Please limit your sewer discharge including toilets, washing  machines, showers, dishwashers, etc.
