An alert off-duty Bellaire Police Officer spotted a burglary suspect on his way home, after responding earlier to a burglary at New York Eatery.

Bellaire Police Chief Lopez gave the following account of the crime and how the suspect was found and arrested.

“On July 7, 2022 at approximately 4:00 AM employees of the New York Eatery located in the 5400 block of Bellaire Blvd arrived for work and discovered that several windows had been broken out. A review of the security video showed that a suspect forced entry into the business by breaking the windows on July 6th at approximately 11:00 PM. Once inside the suspect stole the cash register and a bottle of alcohol and fled the scene.

At approximately 6:35 AM while officers were still conducting their investigation one of the officers that had originally responded to the burglary was on his way home. As he drove down Bellaire Blvd he observed a subject that matched the suspect on the surveillance footage images in the parking lot of a gas station in the 6100 block of Bellaire Blvd.

The off-duty officer contacted Bellaire PD Dispatch and had on-duty officers respond to the area. The suspect, Christopher Anderson (B/M 02/18/1969), was found to be in possession of a bottle of alcohol that records showed came from the New York Eatery. Additionally, the subject’s clothing matched what officers saw on surveillance video. The suspect was placed into custody and transported to the Bellaire City Jail where he was charged with Burglary of Building, a State Jail Felony.”
