For its exemplary record of leadership, service and efforts to improve the school and community, the National Honor Society (NHS) awarded the Bellaire High School NHS chapter the Service Award of Excellence. NHS is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), which also oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
“Receiving an NHS Chapter Pillar Award reflects the extraordinary commitment of students who are making a real difference in their school and community,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “The Bellaire High School chapter shows what’s possible when young people come together to lead, serve and inspire others.”
Bellaire’s National Honor Society chapter provided service at 60 unique campus and community events over the course of the 23-24 academic school year – 7,082 hours of service were logged via their volunteer platform. In addition to community service, members of the Bellaire National Honor Society provided close to 500 hours of tutoring.
Bellaire Principal Michael Niggli expressed his great pleasure when news broke about this award. “I am absolutely thrilled about the recognition that our students and staff have received for their hard work supporting the community through their philanthropic efforts,” Niggli said. “This is truly special for our NHS chapter. I could not be more proud of our young scholars and how they have given back to community.”
Chapter co-advisers, Jennifer Kuhleman and Juanita Camarillo, are extremely proud of the dedication their chapter members have towards upholding all four pillars of an NHS member and are honored to see their collective service efforts recognized on a national level. “We value and recognize the contributions of each of our members but would like to highlight the exceptional efforts of our dedicated 23-24 officer corps; Michael Sheth, Jason Deng, Flynn Collins, Andrew Abdelmlak, Irene Zheng, Jack Berry, and Aaditya Krishna.”
The NHS Chapter Pillar Awards are prestigious recognitions to celebrate the outstanding achievements of NHS chapters across the country. In addition to basic requirements, the chapters must have demonstrated successful activities that exemplify one of the core values of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character.
