Happy HOWL-O-Ween from BARC! Join us this weekend to find your new BOO!
$5 Adoption Fees for all Cats and Kittens.
$5 Adoption Fees for all Dogs 5 months and older.
Puppies will have normal $75 Adoption Fees.
To adopt, you must be 18 years of age and you will need a state-issued photo id with current address. If the address on your id does not match your current address, please bring a utility bill with current address. You will complete an application here at the shelter. Please check the pet policies at your residence, including any breed or size restrictions, prior to visiting the shelter.
Your application will be reviewed to ensure that you can provide a loving home with the proper environment and care needed for the pet you have selected.
The shelter is located at 3200 Carr St, Houston 77026 (just north of downtown off Hwy 59 at the Collingsworth exit). BARC is open every day from noon to 5:00 PM. Please allow at least one hour to meet the animals and complete the adoption process-our last adoption is processed at 5:00PM. Be prepared to spend some time at the shelter–pet ownership is a lifelong responsibility so we want you to spend time getting to know the animals, and we want to help you to make a choice that is a good fit for you!
Our normal adoption fee is $50 for dogs/$75 for puppies up to 4 months and $20 for cat and kittens and includes spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccinations, microchipping, and rabies vaccination/city license. You would be responsible for booster shots to complete the vaccination series and registering the microchip. The number of boosters required depends on the age of the animal you are looking at.
We also offer half price adoptions any day to active military and veterans as part of our Veterans Companion program, and animals over 2 years old are free to qualified adopters over 60 as part of our Seniors for Seniors program (city residents must pay $5 for city license).
Please come prepared to take home your new pet–animals that are already spayed/neutered are able to go home the same day with their adopters. Otherwise, they will stay at the shelter and are scheduled for surgery on the next available weekday, and you can pick up that same afternoon. BARC provides a cardboard carrier for kitties and a leash to help restrain dogs but you may need a travel crate or kennel for safe transport.
