A wrong-way driver admitted to drinking before crashing into a vehicle head-on, police said.
The driver was seen headed south on the northbound lanes of 610 West near the Galleria area. The driver stopped briefly at Fournace as drivers were flashing their lights trying to alert drivers in the northbound lanes.
The suspect took off again, striking at least one car head on, which was just north of Bellaire. Both drivers are expected to survive, according to police.
All lanes were blocked on the 610 West Loop northbound at Bellaire Blvd. They reopened a bit before 5:30am.
Bellaire Police are trying to get a search warrant to gather a blood sample from the wrong-way driver to see just how intoxicated he may have been at the time of the crash.
