A Bellaire tween has created an event called “Brooke’s Book Bash” to help children who lost their books during Hurricane Harvey. She applied for and received a grant through Youth Service America and the event will be held on Sunday, January 7 from 2-3:30 at the JCC.

She still is in need of volunteers and especially would love to invite any children 10 and under who lost their possessions from Harvey to join her for story time, crafts and for a book distribution of new and used books.

About Brooke

My name is Brooke, I’m 12 years old and in 7th grade. My hobbies are sports, arts and crafts, and especially reading. I have one sister who is 10 years old and 2 cats. I learned to read when I was 4 and ever since that time I have loved to read. My favorite books are the Nancy Drew and Harry Potter series. I even collect first edition Nancy Drew books. I love to visit the local library.

About Brooke’s Book Bash

After Hurricane Harvey I applied for a grant through Youth Service America (YSA) to host an event called Brooke’s Book Bash to help children who lost their books during the hurricane. I received the grant and I am excited to host it on Sunday, January 7, 2018. It will be an event with many fun book-related activities. It will be fun and educational. At the end each kid attending will get to choose a few books to keep from the selection of books that I collected.

Brooke’s Book Bash will be held at Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston
5601 S. Braeswood • Houston, TX  in the Executive Board Room.
