The debate over sidewalks continued at the September 17 City Council Meeting which lasted more than 5 hours.
After many audience comments and lengthy council discussion, the vote was 6 to 1 in favor of going ahead with the next phase of sidewalk construction. However there were some amendments to the Phase 1 Plan. The council voted to only install 4 foot sidewalks on the affected streets after many complained that 5 foot sidewalks were not what was originally voted on by citizens. They also voted to remove streets from this plan that are located outside the loop. They agreed that the most important sidewalks around schools and parks should be installed first.
Group D Phase 2 sidewalks will be discussed at the September 24 Council Meeting.
