From the Houston Chronicle: Two Lamar High School students are in custody and three more at large after a stolen car sparked a police chase and a school lockdown Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The midday security hold at the River Oaks-area high school came after a string of car break-ins over the weekend prompted a police investigation.

While most of the thefts involved snatching items from open car windows, in one case the suspects found keys to steal a car, according to Bellaire police.

Information uncovered during the investigation led police to believe Lamar students could be behind the thefts, and Bellaire PD Assistant Chief Michael Leal said officers “may” have taken one juvenile into custody on Monday.

Then on Tuesday, officers spotted the stolen car near Lamar High School and began following it. Five teens were allegedly in the car and when they noticed police, they sped off and drove to the school, where they tried to flee into the building, Leal said.
